A Simulated Radar Reflectivity Calculation Method in Numerical Weather Prediction Models

چکیده

Abstract The simulated radar reflectivity used by current mesoscale numerical weather prediction models can reflect the grid precipitation but cannot subgrid generated a cumulus parameterization scheme. To solve this problem, study developed new calculation method to obtain corresponding subgrid-scale and grid-scale based on Global/Regional Assimilation Prediction System (GRAPES) model of China Meteorological Administration. Based method, two 15-day forecast experiments were carried out for different time periods (11–25 April 2019 1–15 August 2019), products obtained previous compared. results show that gives clear indication in model. Verification threat scores improved are better than those control general reliability is improved. It concluded effective significantly improves products. This has good prospects providing more information about forecasting convective activity operational models.

Numerical Weather Prediction Models

JMA operates NWP models to meet various kinds of requirements on weather forecasting. The suite of the NWP models covers a wide temporal range of forecast periods from a few hours to two seasons providing a seamless sequence of products for the public. The Global Spectral Model (GSM) produces 84-hour forecast four times a day (00, 06, 12, 18 UTC) to support the official short-range forecasting ...

Distributed Quantitative Precipitation Forecasting Using Information from Radar and Numerical Weather Prediction Models

The benefits of short-term (1–6 h), distributed quantitative precipitation forecasts (DQPFs) are well known. However, this area is acknowledged to be one of the most challenging in hydrometeorology. Previous studies suggest that the ‘‘state of the art’’ methods can be enhanced by exploiting relevant information from radar and numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, using process physics and ...

Mesoscale Numerical Weather Prediction

Mesoscale models, with grid resolution higher than synoptic and global models, and with advanced physical parameterizations, have been an important tool for meteorological research over the past twenty years. The research applications of mesoscale models, mostly through case studies or model sensitivity experiments in the 1980s, provided us with important physical insights into mesoscale weathe...

Comparison of weather radar, numerical weather prediction and gauge-based rainfall estimates

Hydrological hazards have been extensive world-wide in recent times. In particular, there has been widespread flooding across much of Australia in response to extreme precipitation events. Hydrological modelling can be used to effectively manage the extensive effects of flood events, but the primary input for hydrological hind-, nowand fore-casting of these events is reliable knowledge of both ...

Two adaptive radiative transfer schemes for numerical weather prediction models

Radiative transfer calculations in atmospheric models are computationally expensive, even if based on simplifications such as the δ-two-stream approximation. In most weather prediction models these parameterisation schemes are therefore called infrequently, accepting additional model error due to the persistence assumption between calls. This paper presents two so-called adaptive parameterisati...
